Version 5 Progress Update

Posted on: May 19th, 2015 by Dave

Credit Shop

Some weeks back I posted my intentions for Street Crime. I am conscious that it’s now been a month or so since this update and I haven’t posted any further progress reports. So here’s what I have been up to;

  • I have collated information from various sources and found new bugs with the help of many of you (you know who you are, and will get a full mention in the credits of the new version).
  • I have moved the game to new servers.
  • Put the foundations in for better more robust development of the game going forward.
  • I have squashed a number of bugs (these are currently in testing)
  • And I am redeveloping several areas of the game. They are getting a medium sized overhaul and it will change the dynamic of the game. I am excited about this.

The question everyone wants to know is whether or not the game will be reset when the work is complete. The answer, yes. Let me clarify on a few things that will happen when the reset happens;

  • The game will be entirely reset.
  • Each player will need to sign up with a new account
  • If your email has/was used on a previous account, a lookup against memberships/credits/some credit items will be made and these items will be returned to you.
  • Stricter rules around duping will be implemented
  • Assets will be slowly released into the community

I expect to make a new code release to the game shortly. However, I do not have a date for the proposed reset, just yet.

I’ll be sure to try and post more regular updates in the future.

Street Crime - One great gaming experience

Here at Street Crime you can enjoy a great MMO game about the world of gangsters. The world is full of deception and other gamers to take into account. Our game has been noticed by a website named PokerListings. They represent another MMO entertainment called poker online and if you want to check them out, please visit their website.

A New Dawn

Posted on: March 18th, 2015 by Dave

My names Dave (Synthasize) i’ve been the owner and later the co-owner of Street Crime for as long as it has run.

Street Crime has enjoyed some good years and lately some not so great ones, it’s path has had many transitions, versions and re-incarnations. Through the 7 years we’ve been lucky to have had more than 100,000 players register and play, this is both humbling and amazing! So, thank you for being a part of that!

As Street Crime has grown up and matured and so have the guys behind it. I myself am quickly approaching my 30th birthday, long gone are the days of hacking on Street Crime in my university room, the days of no responsibility, and so indeed are the days where it was acceptable to not get dressed all day!

With that in mind Elliot (Sylar to most of you) has decided to bow out of managing/building Street Crime and I have decided to carry on solo. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Elliot for everything both as a colleague and a dear friend.

So what does this mean for you?

In short this means, bug fixing, new features, new servers, a game mechanics overhaul, version 5, and a game reset.

Over the next few months I plan on releasing what I am dubbing “Version 5” of Street Crime. I’ve been carefully listening to feedback and combining that with my own vision for the future of Street Crime.

How as a player will I see this happen?

After you have logged in, you will see a new version number on the main page, this indicates which version of Street Crime is currently running. Each week/fortnight I will increment this until we get to what I think is worthy of Version 5. For example next time you login you will see version 5.0.0-alpha1. This will be incremented to alpha2 etc until we reach a beta which will be something close to a stable release of version 5. Each time this version changes a blog post and posts on our social media outlets will be made, explaining what has been done, and letting you all know what the impact/opportunities from these changes are. So please keep an eye out for regular updates.

I’m personally stoked about working on Street Crime again, I look forward to seeing some old faces back and actively playing.

With all that said i’m REALLY excited to invite you all back for the next chapter of Street Crime’s journey.

Stay tuned!

Street Crime: Valentines Competition

Posted on: February 10th, 2013 by dave

This year on Street Crime everyone is going to be playing Cupid and collecting hearts. Throughout the game you will come across hearts which require energy to collect. The competition starts on 13/02/2013 @ 21:00 and ends 16/02/2013 @ 10:00.

24 hours before the competition is due to start a new menu option will appear in the menu which will give details of the competition and show you how many hearts you have accumulated.

Be careful when playing Cupid as if you come across a black heart you will loose one of your red hearts! However you will also come across triple hearts which are worth 3 hearts but cost 12 energy to pick up so make sure that you have enough energy to collect.

Hearts can also be mugged from other players so why not take revenge on your enemies by stealing love hearts from them to prevent them from winning the competition! Each heart has a points value which will be revealed at the end of the competition. The top 3 players with the most points at the end of the competition will receive a prize.

Credit Item Sale

Through the duration of the competition we will also be making various offers so make sure you login to grab yourself a bargain!

Recent development changes / bug exploitation

Posted on: December 13th, 2012 by Dave

If you’ve been active on Street Crime lately you will have been hard pushed to not notice tweaks and changes we have been making and the actions we have taken on players exploiting bugs. We wanted to write this summary blog post to explain everything we have done and why it’s so important.

Tweaks and changes

  • We have re-structured the amount of energy possible from a combination of perks and premium membership to 12 every 3/mins (previously 24). We made this change to make ranking a little more challenging.
  • We completely re-coded our anti script protection. All core aspects of the game are now protected from simple scripts.
  • In our re-code of the anti script protection we also added a strike system. A strike is received for not entering an anti script check in a reasonable amount of attempts. If you receive the strike you will be automatically logged out and will need to re-login to continue playing. If you receive 3 strikes you will receive a weeks ban for suspicious scripting behaviour. You have been warned.
  • We added improvements and fixes to the crew invite and organised crime invite systems. Which had become a little corroded as we’ve moved through the versions. They now work just fine.
  • We added some niceties to our helpdesk ticketing system to speed up answering all of your tickets.
  • We worked on 3 new competitions (1 of which has already been and gone) but we still have 2 new ones coming. With the next one kicking off on saturday 15th.
  • We made various security improvements to alot of key pages.
  • We prepped and got ready the crew chat feature for release again next week.

As you’ll know if you have been playing we have swooped to cleanse Street Crime of some of it’s buggy accounts and players. Due to earlier glitches in the system some subtle but serious bugs went un-noticed. We worked hard to gather evidence and follow the breadcrumb trail until we found the perpetrators and the problems. A small list of bug fixes can be found below:

  • Script prevention on core aspects of the game
  • Higher than normal energy levels bug (super gangster)
  • Turfs not having correct amount of buildings on them
  • Players not having a location set
  • Airport script security
  • Redirections from protected pages now working
  • Valid referrals have been fixed

We hope you enjoy the tweaks and the fairer world it should leave behind. If you do find a bug or think something is not working quite right please do alert an admin, if we find that you have exploited a bug you will only have yourself to blame when your account is banned. In some cases we even offer rewards!!

Now that your all gearing up for the festive period and we are looking forward to seeing some super competitive competitions in the coming weeks!!!!

Halloween Competition V2

Posted on: November 1st, 2012 by dave

Last night we launched the first version of our halloween competition, it went reasonably well. What didn’t seem to go so well was the concept. In defending your 50 bags of sweets, we expected players to regularly fly and make themselves a difficult target. There was a bit of confusion over whether or not you would get the bags of sweets you stole rather than just stealing them and eating them from other players. The competition also had a few minor hiccups in it, which we’re ironed out during the competition.

We’ve decided that since it seems to make more sense, we’ll launch a V2 of the trick or treat competition tonight and in doing so change the way the competition works!

In tonights competition you will get +1 bags of sweets for every bag stolen and the players with the most bags of sweets at the end of the competition will win!

The competition will kick off at 16:00 game time TODAY and will go on until midnight on the 3rd. We’ve also decided to add some big prizes for the top 3 players of this competition. You can use the same link to view the competition from 16:00 today.
